Any music advice for a new violinist?

Question by g3l-f4(3: Any music advice for a new violinist?
I just bought my first (student) violin. I should be getting it in a few days, & I’m signing up for lessons at the local Arts Center. Any advice for a beginner? I’m so excited to get it & start to learn.

i recommend you get a violin beginners book
from there you can practice all the scales and notes.
Go to your local music store and ask them about beginning books, they can recommend you books that are good.
one beginners book i can remember from off head is “strictly strings”

    http://musiced.about.com/od/freestuff/a/freeviolinsheet.htm

that website has beginning songs for violin.
but it’s very important to know the scales and what each note means.

if you have any questions or need any help you can ask me
you can send me an email (the thing is on my y!a profile)

Scales. Lots and lots of scales. I would say I spend about 60% of my practice time on scales, and it has been extremely effective. If you’re playing a piece in the key of A major, do a lot of work with A major scales such as scales (two, three, four, six, eight, and sixteen notes per bow at quarter note equals 60), arpeggios, scales in thirds, scales in sixths, scales in octaves, etc. Well, it’s a bit much for a beginner, but you’ll work your way up there.
